University Challenge

We’ve been working alongside Southampton Solent University for several years, supporting the BA (Hons) PR and Communication course by providing the students with briefs to respond to as part of a simulated pitch process.

In the last couple of weeks, we had the initial session where we met the students, gave some background as to how we approach pitches and planning campaigns, showcased some recent work, introduced the briefs and provided some invaluable tips for presenting

This year, the students have the opportunity to pitch for a 12-month retainer campaign for Isle of Wight Tourism or a 3-month launch campaign for one of two Paramount Pictures films; Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol or Puss in Boots. The students have already selected the brief they wish to respond to so the next step will be a Q&A session at the university in November before the final pitch day in the New Year.

The course lecturer, Sally Holland, has told us that the students find the experience really beneficial as they get to see behind the scenes of a local agency and get a taste of a typical pitch situation. From an agency perspective, the arrangement works well in terms of helping to build relationships within the community but also enabling us to keep an eye out for new talent for work experience or graduate positions.

We’re really excited to see what this year’s students have in store for us!
