Activision Call of Duty Black Ops II: Twitter Mission
Given its status as one of the world’s biggest and most successful entertainment titles, awareness of all things Call of Duty is very high within the gaming community. However, Activision wanted to highlight the special features included in the new game – in particular how it develops based on each player’s actions and the choices they make.
With only a couple of weeks to go till launch and a small budget, we created a ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’- style Black Ops II mission that involved clicking on secret agent profiles and making tactical decisions to progress through the story based on their tweets. Working closely with Activision to ensure that the text-based game retained the ‘Call of Duty experience’, players could for one day only navigate their way through mines, throw grenades and hack into gun turrets on Twitter. Those that successfully completed the mission were given a secret URL, which took them to a competition page hosted by retail partner, Game.co.uk. Prizes included a special ‘Hardened’ edition of the game or tickets to the UK launch party. Those that failed the mission, were sent back to the beginning.
